ϲ continues its ecological mission

Even during these difficult times of military aggression, ϲ continues to fight for a clean world and to preserve everything around us. Our university is renowned for its numerous innovations in ‘green’ technologies, and a caring attitude towards the environment has become an integral part of our corporate culture.
One of the priority areas of ϲ’s environmental activities is the systematic collection of recyclable materials: waste paper, plastic, plastic bottle caps and used batteries. These projects continue uninterrupted, despite all the hardships, shelling and destruction, as the university is conscious of its responsibility for a clean future.
The ‘Batteries, Surrender!’ campaign, launched in collaboration with the student trade union committee and the ϲ library, deserves special attention. The campaign is coordinated by the ϲ Archives (M.N. Wolfson).
As is well known, AA and watch batteries, mobile phone batteries and other similar power sources account for a very small percentage of total waste, yet they are among the most hazardous. They contain mercury, lithium, cadmium, zinc, lead, other heavy metals and alkalis, which, if disposed of incorrectly, contaminate soil and water. Therefore, it is strictly forbidden to dispose of this waste in ordinary rubbish bins; it requires special recycling.
The results of the campaign demonstrate the university community’s commitment to the cause. This year, environmental activists collected and handed over a new batch of batteries – around 20 kg – for recycling.
Despite all the challenges of wartime, ϲ continues to fight for a clean world and to preserve everything around us. Every battery or bottle handed in is not just a statistic, but a real contribution to overcoming environmental threats and a step towards a sustainable future. The university calls on everyone who cares to get involved in environmental initiatives and demonstrates that, even in the darkest of times, caring for nature remains a beacon of hope for every one of us.
